Built in 1885 under the name Hôtel des Anglais opposite the train station, the residence was the first hotel establishment opened in the town in 1885. It has since hosted the elite of the European aristocracy during the winter.

The ironwork on the balconies was inspired by the Art Nouveau style, each floor features a frieze in a different theme. The central dome, supported on the main facade by four caryatids, displays the royal coats of arms of Great Britain and Ireland with the representation of the lion and the unicorn.

The hotel was frequented by one of Queen Victoria's sons and brother of Edward VII, Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn. The building also served as a military hospital during the first World War, before being transformed into an apartment building in 1939.
